Temple Head Coach and Player Quotes
Coach Bobby Wallace:
"Against Syracuse, our number one goal is always to stop the long ball. We did a pretty good job, but got caught a couple of times, once with the hitch and go and once with the throwback. We're always out to stop the run, and (Walter) Reyes is a great back, so we did a pretty good job on him."
"Syracuse is a big and strong team with a great running attack, and the ability to stretch the field. The QB was accurate today. Some days he isn't, and some days he is. We got him on a good day for him. When is accurate like he was today, Syracuse is a very tough team."
(on Walter Washington): "In the first half, he was not very good, but he got better as the game went along. On his first interception, he went to the wrong side of the field into double coverage. He was also hurt by a couple of drops. He will start next week, and we'll continue to work with him – he's a work in progress."
"Our defense was on the field too much in the first half. We weren't doing anything offensively and got the poor punt, too. We also let them convert on third down several times, including the long one by penalty."
Senior wide receiver Zamir Cobb's thoughts after the game:
"It's very disappointing. I think we can do a lot better. We put him (Walter Washington) in a tough position. He's more than capable of getting the job done. When he's on, we've got to be on and when we're on, he's got to be on. It's a combination of a lot of things."
Sophomore quarterback Walter Washington's comments after the game:
"We had our chances early in the game to move the ball well. Defensively, we played pretty well. Offensively, we could have done a lot better, but we're improving from what we have been doing. I think it had a lot to do with me not choosing the right side to go to."
"Honestly, I really didn't feel pressure from their front four. They're talented, but as far as pressure, I didn't feel it."
"At halftime the mood was that we thought we could move the ball and score on their defense. We felt they couldn't stop us, but we made errors in the beginning. That bothered me just a little bit in the first half."
"I felt very confident starting today. Everyone felt confident in me. They know I'm going to fight until the end."
Washington when asked about one of his favorite quarterbacks, Donovan McNabb:
"It felt good to play on the same field as McNabb. He's one of my favorite quarterbacks. I try to play the way he does."
