Jake Crouthamel' s Statement
"We are pleased to announce and introduce to you, our new head women’s basketball coach, Keith Ceplicki. He is only our fourth women’s basketball coach in school history.
In developing the position description, we were looking for someone who had a minimum of five years head coaching experience, preferably at the Division I level. We were looking for someone who had demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to recruit skilled and academically-qualified student-athletes. And, were looking for someone who had strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Let me assure you that we didn’t write this position description because it fit Keith. But it is by no chance, however that the description fit Keith.
The competition in The BIG EAST Conference is clearly several notches above the competition in the America East Conference. However, a good head coach will recruit to the level of competition. A good recruiter is a good recruiter, regardless of the competition level.
Second, we were looking for a person with significant head coaching experience. No matter how many years of being a good assistant you put in, you don’t know what being a good head coach is until you are it.
Keith has proven his ability to recruit skilled and academically prepared students at both the University of Vermont and Boston College. He has proven his head coaching abilities in six successful seasons at Vermont. As an educational administrator, he knows the importance of education.
I think that you will find that his communication and interpersonal skills are quite good.
It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you the new head coach of our women’s basketball program, Keith Ceplicki."
On the goals of SU women’s basketball under Keith Ceplicki:
"Our goal is to be more competitive than we have been in The BIG EAST Conference and to be in the top group (of the conference)."
