Mike Sklarosky, SU Defensive Tackle (January 16, 2004)

“I felt the most comfortable here. I went down to Kentucky and it was nice down there, but then I came up here, and there was just something about it that made me feel more comfortable up here than down there.”
How has your adjustment to SU gone?
“It’s easy. It’s easy to find everything. Every day you meet more and more players. Every day you feel more at home. I like it up here. I like my classes. Every day I feel more comfortable. You get a little nervous at first – I was, the first day. I wanted to check on all my classes and everything. But, I think the way the campus is set up, it’s pretty easy to find everything. The class size is a big difference. I think after I get adjusted everything will be pretty good.”
What are you most looking forward to as an Orangeman?
“Playing in front of the crowd in the Carrier Dome. That’s probably what I’m looking forward to the most – playing in front of a big crowd.”
What sold you on Syracuse?
“I like Coach P and all the coaches. I liked the Dome a lot. I think it will be a great place to play. It’ll be crowded and it gets so loud in there, so I think it’ll be fun to play games in there.”
Did SU's conference affiliation affect your decision?
“I wasn’t really concerned about whether we played in the BIG EAST or the ACC. The only thing that really concerned me was whether Coach P was going to be here. What conference we play in didn’t really affect me either way. It’s more about who was going to be here.”
How do you feel about participating in Spring practice>
“Since both of the starters graduated, going into spring ball, I want to make a good impression so I have a chance to start during the season.”
What are your personal goals?
“I’d like to play. I think, any player, that’s what they’re going to say. I don’t know anybody who’s on the team who would say, I want to sit on the bench. My last year of high school, I played against a lot of guys who – one went to Notre Dame, one went to Penn State, Pitt – I always felt I could play against them. That was my goal, to get to the highest level I could. Being a player, I think you want to strive as high as you can get.”
