On the search process:
“About three or four weeks ago, several people from the university contacted us about potentially doing the search and we talked with them about it and they decided to use Spencer Stuart. I run our sports practice and we do a variety of sports searches from the CEO of the United State Olympic Committee and the CEO of adidas North America to athletic directors at Michigan State and Virginia, and we are doing the general manager search for the Cleveland Browns right now and the CEO for the PGA of America. We have a wide variety of people we know and have close relationships with, and we were able to amass a large group of people and the reason why this search worked so quickly was that everyone was committed to not having an agenda. A lot of times when you do a search, you have committee members with an agenda, the agenda here was clear that it was what was going to be best for the university long-term. As a result, people moved at lightning speed to have meetings and make things happen, which you usually don’t find.”
