Head Coach Paul Pasqualoni
Coach Pasqualoni Quotes
On today's game:
"Today we ran a lot of plays and had the opportunity for a number of guys to gain a lot of experience. We have a lot of young guys and I think that the fact that they're on their own today is the big emphasis of the scrimmage."
On the performance of the offense:
"The kids did a great job today. We've thrown a great deal of offense at them. We have inexperienced quarterbacks, but that did not deter us from how much we wanted to get done this spring. We got as much offense in as we wanted to. I thought X (Xzavier Gaines) did well. He made some nice plays. Perry made a few nice plays. Joe made a few nice plays. But we start back over again when we get back in the fall."
On the quarterbacks:
"I would say today is the day that Perry (Patterson) and Xzavier (Gaines) got a little a bit older, having been out on the field alone without the coaches before. I think the younger guys, Matt (Hale) and Joe (Fields), at times haven't been out there without the coaches, so the older guys looked a little more poised. The younger guys were a little anxious, but I'm glad we got today under our belts. Joe got his first public exposure and did some nice things. I think overall it was a good day and we will pick up the quarterback competition in preseason camp."
On the BIG EAST without Miami and Virginia Tech:
"I think it will be an exciting season. We have some good teams. I think West Virginia will be a popular team, a top-20 team. BC has improved this year. They are coming off a big bowl win against Colorado State. Pittsburgh has a good team. We are looking to improve on what we did last year, so I think it will be a very competitive league and I'm excited about it."
On Steve Gregory's transition to wide receiver:
"I think Steve can be a really good player as a wide receiver. He has those kind of special skills. I'd like to let him master those before I think about also playing him on defense. In high school he was a fabulous offensive football player and has great hands and great quickness. Based on what he's done in his high school career and how he was evaluated, I think he has all the tools we're looking for. Steve is a team guy, a real unselfish guy, and he wants to play where he's going to have the greatest impact and be able to help the team the most."
On Julian Pollard, Matt Tarullo, and Walter Reyes being selected captains:
"I feel really good about them. I think they are three great guys. Julian has worked really hard and earned himself a starting position, so I'm happy for Julian. He's a high-character guy and he has a great work ethic. Walter is hard-working guy, who has a chance to be a terrific player. He's very humble and I think he has the leadership qualities to make him successful. When Matt came here I didn't know how quickly he would become an impact player, but he earned a starting position very early in his career. He's worked extremely hard. He knows the offense very well. He's bright and he wants to help the team in any way he can and I know he will accept the responsibility of being a captain of his team. I am very pleased with those three selections."
On redshirt freshman Jeremy Sellers:
"We wanted to get Jeremy some opportunities. I thought he did well. I like the way he runs. I like the way he blocks people. He's going to be good."
