Center Matt Tarullo
“The Purdue defense is very difficult defense to play against because they are one of the more complex defenses in the country. We are excited as an offense to play against this defense. We know a lot of the things they do, we’ve watched a lot of film, and we’re excited to go down there and play this complex defense. Purdue’s defensive line matches up with us very nicely, they have big guys. They lost all three linebackers and to me it's similar to us losing Rich Scanlon last year because I’ve seen Jerry Mackey for the last six months working like a bloodhound, to get that linebacker position. So, Purdue must have had like six guys working like Jerry for those linebacker positions. It really excites me with this level of competition.”
On the three quarterbacks:
I pretty comfortable with all three. I have been snapping well with all three.
On pressure of protecting a younger inexperienced quarterback:
“Last year our offensive line gave up only 12 or 13 sacks. I am excited to try and match that number. Last year’s offensive line was great and this year’s is even better. We have great character people and people whoare smart. We are excited to show each other how hard we have been working. I think all five of us are excited to show each other how we’re willing to sacrifice for each other.”
On the importance of the confidence in the first game:
“Every road has has its bumps in it and you’re going to have setbacks. That is what the game of football is. I think it is very important that we are all on the same page and that’s why I‘m excited to play center and make sure everyone is on the same page. I think the confidence that we need to build is definitely necessary and that will allow the team to grow and gain strength emotionally. That will help any team play better.
On so many players switching positions:
“It shows me that people are ready to do whatever they need to do to allow us to have a good team. I think the sacrifice that the guys show just shows that we have a team that is ready to do anything to win.”
On the differences with left- and right-handed quarterbacks:
“Well usually the right tackle is the run blocker and the left tackle is the pass blocker and that is pretty much switched with a left-handed quarterback.”
