Syracuse Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Keith Cieplicki
On the Orange’s shooting:
“I’m very pleased. We just tried to make sure we established the inside game early so we could get easy looks at the three, and I think that helped.”
On SU’s man-to-man defense:
“I thought it was pretty good. We just played them straight up. If we can play people one-on-one than I think we can play a little more man-to-man. In certain situations it’s going to be tough. If the other team has an exceptional player, than we’ll have to help a little more. I thought we did a good job. We’ve been working on it.”
On Rochelle Coleman’s play at the point:
“Rochelle is fantastic. I think she’s doing so many things for us – finding open people, getting us easy scores and establishing tempo. I thought she did a great job defensively, especially in the second half. We had her pick up a little higher and she disrupted them a little more. She’s doing a lot of things for us. Her energy and endurance looked good for playing the whole game.”
On carrying the momentum from the victory over to the next game:
“I think it helps the players believe in our ability to win. We’ve got to keep getting better. This week we did some good things with our defense. Offensively, we were pretty good. We had a lot of easy ones, but we made them happen in terms of getting the ball to people. I’m excited because now we’re developing the ability to play different ways. That’s going to be important with the different match-ups. Everybody played pretty solid tonight.”
Senior Chineze Nwagbo
On her aggressiveness versus Providence:
“I haven’t been playing well, but tonight we emphasized going hard to the basket. Coach tells me every single day, ‘Score. Score. Go to the basket.’ That was something that was emphasized in practice to the team.”
On the team’s offensive outburst:
“I think we just finished more which is obvious by our shooting percentage. A lot of our shots went down. We executed very well today.”
On Syracuse playing man-to-man defense:
“It felt really comfortable. I thought we did a good job of communicating and calling out the screens.”
Freshman Jessica Richter
On her offensive game:
“(Taking the ball to the basket) is one of the things we’ve been working on. Tonight driving and taking it to the basket was going to be wide open so I looked for that.”
On the team’s shooting:
“We missed a lot early. Every game we’re just missing too many easy ones. We started finishing more in the second half. If we can start doing that I think we’ll be scoring up where we should be.”
On Syracuse playing man-to-man defense:
“We just need to make sure we communicate even more (than tonight). It was fun to play man.”
