Syracuse vs. Davidson
Jim Boeheim Quotes
Carrier Dome Syracuse, N.Y.

Opening Statement…
“First half we had 13 turnovers and shot ourselves in the foot too many times. Second half we were much more patient. We got some really good looks for Gerry. If he gets those kinds of looks, he’s going to make them. We had a great game from him and Demetris did a great job on Winters. I think that we had to play mostly man to man and he did a tremendous job on Winters. Winters was a tremendous player at Boston and I’ve seen him with USA Basketball and Demetris just did a really good job. I thought our defense was good. The big guy inside is as good an offensive player that I’ve seen in a while. He’s really good. I thought Mookie (Darryl Watkins) did a good job with him in the second half but he’s hard to guard. He made those two three’s in the first half and playing without Terrence (Roberts) for most of the time, I thought Matty (Matt Gorman) did a good job putting up boards. I thought that this game came down to doing a good job man to man. Even though we gave up 80 points, it doesn’t sound like we did, but they are a tremendous offensive team. They try to push, they try to shoot and they are just a tremendous offensive team and every time you have a team with so many seniors it’s a very difficult team and it was a very difficult game to play. They are a lot better offensively than most teams. They are a very good team and they’ll be in the tournament and be a problem, hopefully for someone else. You come off exams and it’s always a tough time and we needed a big game from Gerry and we got it tonight. I thought the two refs, they did a tremendous job, it’s very difficult to work a game when you’re used to 3 and I thought they did a very good job.”
On Gerry McNamara’s shooting…
“Well he’s capable of doing that and we got him open and he got some good screens and when we got the ball inside we found him. Mookie (Watkins) made a good pass out, Matty (Gorman) did, and we really looked for him and he knocked them down.”
On defending Brendan Winters…
“Well we didn’t want him to shoot jump shots, we wanted him to put it on the floor and with all their guys you have to make him put it on the floor. We defended him pretty well, he did miss a couple of open ones, but that happens, it’s the way it goes sometimes. Sometimes that till happen for you.”
On Matt Gorman playing extended minutes…
“I think he’s still nervous. He rebounded well. He got shots he can make. You know he makes those shots in practice everyday. When he gets more time hopefully he can make those (harder shots). He got the boards pretty good. He got some key minutes for us tonight.”
On Davidson’s team…
“They are a tremendous offensive team, tremendous offensive team. Defensively, the two games, our game and Duke, they gave up a lot of points, but they are a very good offensive basketball team.”
On Illinois – Chicago…
“They are good. It will be a tough game. I’m going to say the same thing every time. They are obviously good. They won at Georgia Tech, they won at Northwestern, so obviously they are very good. It will be a tough game.”
