NCAA Selection Sunday
Player Quotes – March 13, 2005
Junior guard Gerry McNamara
On getting a No. 4 seed:
“I kind of expected to be a three-seed, but it doesn’t really matter. If you are going to make a run at it, you are going to have to go through some pretty tough teams either way. I am happy with how we finished and how we are going into the tournament. So, the seed right now doesn’t really matter to me.”
On the parity in college basketball:
“I think that at any time a team can knock somebody off, so it is important for us to go in with the mindset that we are one of the best teams and we can play with anyone. When we are active, we can really play well.”
Senior forward Hakim Warrick
On SU’s matchup with Vermont:
“I know they will shoot a lot of threes and I know they have a pretty good player in Taylor Coppenrath. I know we will really need to get out and challenge their shooters and not give them any open looks.”
On going into the NCAA Tournament after winning the BIG EAST Championship:
“I think it is very important. And playing back-to-back-to-back games, I think that will really help us. After winning the National Championship two years ago, it feels good to have a shot at that again. I think our total team effort from two years ago really gave us a blueprint of how it is supposed to be done. I think we showed that this past weekend at Madison Square Garden.”
Senior center Craig Forth
On how it feels going back to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year:
“Going to the NCAA Tournament, we’ve been there and we’ve won it. Coming off a huge win this past weekend and I know our entire team is excited about going out there and playing Vermont.”
Senior guard Josh Pace
On how it feels going in after winning the BIG EAST Championship:
“I just think it is good to go into the tournament on a good note. We were looking to go into the BIG EAST Tournament and get a couple wins and we did that. We just want to go in on a good note and try to carry on what we did in New York and bring it into the (NCAA) Tournament.”
