Sweeney was part of a front line that helped pave the way for Ernie Davis during the 1960 and 1961 campaigns. He was a member of SU’s winning 1961 Liberty Bowl club.
NFL Draft
He played for San Diego and Washington in the NFL, where he made nine straight Pro Bowls (1965-73). Sweeney was named to Syracuse University's All-Century team in November, 1999.
