An NFL center for the Rochester Jeffersons 1921-22,1922, Milwaukee badgers, 1925-27 New York Giants, Alexander was a consensus All-American in 1918 and 1919, and an All-American again in 1920. He made the NFL All-Rookie team in 1922. He holds a record as one of two Orangemen to be named an All-American three times. He was named to Syracuse University's All-Century team in November, 1999.
