Rob Mulligan was a two-time All-American and captain for Syracuse. He started for three straight seasons as the Orange goalkeeper. Mulligan ranks fifth on SU’s career saves list (626) and 10th on SU’s single season saves list (224 in 1999). He holds a 9-2 NCAA record and ranks third among Orange goalies on the NCAA career saves list (135).
Senior Year (2001): Served as one of three captains on the team…started in all 16 games…played 920 minutes of the team’s 963 total minutes…Recorded 176 saves and a .597 save percentage…posted a career-best 7.76 goals against average…STX/USILA Third-team All-American…had 10 saves, five in the first quarter against Hofstra in the NCAA quarterfinals…finished with 14 saves in the championship game versus Princeton, which the Orange lost in sudden-death overtime 10-9…named to the NCAA All-Tournament team…Played for the North in the North/South Collegiate All-Star game.
Junior Year (2000): Served as one of five captains on the team…started in all 16 games…played 921 of the team’s 962 total minutes…STX/USILA Second Team All-American…selected to the NCAA All-Tournament team…finished eighth in the country in goals against average (8.34) by more than 1.5 goals per game compared to his sophomore season…had 10 games in which he did not allow more than nine goals, including five games when he allowed five goals or fewer…tallied 10 saved and allowed seven goals in the national championship game versus Princeton…made 14 saves against Johns Hopkins in the NCAA semifinals…his best showing was a 23-save, three-goals against performance at Towson…made 19 saves in the Virginia game…had 17 saves against Johns Hopkins during the regular season.
Sophomore Year (1999): Played in all but 17:03 of the total minutes in goal…posted a 9.90 goals against average and .571 save percentage…totaled 224 saves and allowed 168 goals…in the first round of the NCAA Tournament vs. Princeton, made 16 saves on 40 shots and stopped six point-blank shorts…made career-high 25 saves on 52 shots in SU’s 12-10 loss to Johns Hopkins…tallied 20 saves on 56 shots in a 17-13 loss to Georgetown…recorded 16 saves on 42 shots in SU’s 14-12 win against Virginia…had six saves in the fourth quarter to hold Virginia to just one goal in 15 minutes…helped hold the Cavaliers to the lowest goal total in the series between the two schools since 1986 when Virginia defeated SU 12-10…came up big against Hobart, stopping four point-blank shots within five yards of the goal crease.
Redshirt Freshman Year (1998): Played in seven games to relieve Jason Gebhardt…played in three straight games against Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Hobart…recorded 22 saves on the year…had a team-high save percentage of .667…recorded nine saves in the NCAA Tournament against University of Virginia.
