Glenn Thiel, Lacrosse, 1929-1933
Glenn "Nick" Thiel was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1965. An avid lacrosse player at a young age, he played for the Syracuse Crescent Lacrosse Club while still a junior high school student. Thiel also played in the first Intercollegiate Box Lacrosse game in which Syracuse lost to Cornell 12-7 in front of a crowd of 6,000 at the Rochester Armory.
Career: Assisted Roy Simmons Sr. at Syracuse…Head lacrosse coach at Penn State from 1935 to 1956…Had 11 winning seasons in 22 years of coaching…Served as an assistant coach for the North All-Star Team in 1941 and 1943 and head coach in 1942, ’46 and ’49.
Senior Year (1933): Selected as team captain…Member of the Monks Head Society and presented with the trophy for the most outstanding lacrosse player at Syracuse.
Junior Year (1932): Played for Syracuse against Rutgers in the Olympic Playoff Series.
