Syracuse vs. Hofstra

Coach Jim Boeheim
“The difference in tonight’s game, we shot better and we went to the basket better and we got to the foul line. I thought we were really aggressive going to the basket. I thought Eric (Devendorf) did what he can do in terms of getting to the basket. Demetris (Nichols) has played great basketball.”
“I was pretty disappointed though. We do a pretty good job on the boards in the first half and just nothing in the second half. It is just a very disappointing way to go into the holidays and we have to come back and we have to get better- get a whole lot better in six or eight days before we get ready. We have one more non-conference game and then the BIG EAST, and we have got to do better job of getting (Darryl Watkins) the ball. He’s got a three or four inch height advantage. He’s got to get to the basket down there in that situation.”
“This is just a game where we shot a better, I thought we did move a lot better in our zone, our defense was a lot better tonight. We just shot better. They came in here two years ago and they shot a little better and we struggled the whole game with them. Tonight we did shoot it better and that was the difference. I was disappointed in the way we finished on the boards, disappointed that we can’t do a better job of getting the ball inside when we need to. We can’t rely just on making jump shots and that’s something we have to address. Terrance seems a little better, hopefully he will be able to do some light work when we come back and we’ll see how quickly he can get back. I know that we have to play better.”
On Hofstra and if that game strategy was just going to the basket:
“They’re a pressure team and we want to try to get to the basket in those situations. They don’t have a shot blocker. They extend their defense. We have to try to get in there. When they played zone we do good shooters and we made some shots.”
On Hofstra’s guards:
“Their guards are very good. I thought Rivera had a little bit of an off night, which helped us. Their guards are good they just don’t have an inside presence.”
On Josh Wright’s fastbreak:
“Well he just can’t be careless. He was trying to dunk and he should just be trying to make the basket. It was too bad because I thought he was having a really great game. I though he played the best he has played all year. It was not a good play.”
