Nashville, Tenn.
Syracuse scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, both on long runs by MVP James Mungro, and held on for a 20-13 victory over Kentucky in front of 59,221 fans at Adelphia Coliseum.
The Wildcats got on the board first and controlled much of the first half. A 3-yard run by Kendrick Shanklin on the opening drive of the game and a 22-yard field goal on their next possession following a Syracuse fumble gave the Wildcats a 10-0 lead.
The Orange responded with with a 2-yard TD run by Kyle Johnson, set up by an 86-yard run by Mungro down to the UK 3-yard line.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Wildcats extended their lead to 13-7 on a 35-yard field goal. That set the stage for Mungro, who scored from 32 yards out to give SU its first lead of the game. Two possessions later, Mungro found the end zone again, this time on a 20-yard run. A failed two-point conversion attempt by Dee Brown kept the score at 20-13 Syracuse with 1:42 showing on the clock. Kentucky drove to the SU 41-yard line, but a last-second pass attempt was broken up by Will Allen to end the game.
