Syracuse Player Quotes
Freshman Jonny Flynn
On his performance:
“I do what I can do to help my team out. One thing that’s important that I had to do was know when to take over the game and know when to take your shots. I went to the bench one time in the second half and Coach Boeheim told me to go back to the high school days and just score. I credit him for lighting that fire under me to go out and score some points.”
On how memorable his first game was:
“It was real good. It was the first game in the Dome. The jitters are finally out. The season is finally here. We’re just trying to win games here. Regardless of whether I score five points or twenty points – as long as we win I’m satisfied.”
On breaking Carmelo Anthony’s record for points in a Syracuse debut:
“I learned that tonight he had a great impact on Syracuse University. To break one of his records is really big for me, but I try not to look at that. One thing I do look at is the ‘W’ that we got.”
Freshman Donte’ Greene
On SU’s defense:
“If we cut down on turnovers then maybe their not as close. If we score a couple more points and get a lot more stops we’ll be good.”
On what the team needs to work on:
“Definitely cutting down turnovers. Twenty turnovers is not good. No offense to Siena, they’re a tough team, but not twenty turnovers – that’s unnecessary. We have got to cut down on that and just help ourselves on defense. On the help side we should have gotten a lot more blocked shots than that.”
Sophomore Arinze Onuaku
On the team’s interior defense:
“We just need to learn as the game is going on against a good team like this. They gave us a lot of different looks that we haven’t seen before. We need to adjust as the game is going on.”
Sophomore Paul Harris
On the game and his performance:
“It’s important to learn to communicate and trust your teammates. If I’m going to be there, I’ve got to know that my teammate’s going to be there. Sometimes I got caught up in committing fouls. I told my teammates I’m sorry. I’ll go watch film tonight and come out ready tomorrow.”
