Ric Beardsley, a four-time All-American defenseman, was an Orange captain his senior year. In his four years, he was always one of the top four SU players to recover groundballs. Ric was also part of the 1993 and 1995 national championship teams. In 1995, he was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
Senior Year (1995): One of four captains…All-American first team…started all 15 games…scored six goals on 21 shots…had one assist…recovered 86 groundballs, first on the team…scored three goals in win against Brown…assist came against Maryland in the national championship win…named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team…played for the North in the North/South Collegiate All-Star Game.
Junior Year (1994): All-American first team…tied with Chad Smith for second on team with 63 groundballs…missed two starts early in the season with a broken hand, but played in every game except second UMass game…named to the All-Tournament team at the Fleet Invitational.
Sophomore Year (1993): All-American second team…third on team with 68 groundballs…had one goal against Brown and Pennsylvania…also recorded an assist against Penn for two points in that game.
Freshman Year (1992): Won a starting job and earned All-American honorable mention…led the close defense with 54 groundballs, fourth on the team…earned All-Tournament honors at Brown’s Fleet Invitational tournament…scored five goals on 10 shots and had two assists on the season…scored points in six straight games…season-high two points (1-1) vs. C.W. Post.
High School: Attended Lakeland High School…two-time All-American for Coach Frank Vitolo…three-time Empire State Games participant, winning a gold medal in 1990 and a silver in 1989…North-South All-Star Game selection…set school record for most career points by a defenseman (18-14-32)…also lettered in football.
Personal: Son of Fred Beardsley…born May 2, 1973 in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. … member of the gold medal-winning 1992 U.S. Under-19 World team with SU teammates Roy Colsey and Chad Smith…one sister…majored in anthropology.
