George Stafford is a 1948 graduate of Syracuse University with a degree from the School of Management with a concentration in finance. Stafford was a member of the soccer team in 1946 and 1947, serving as the team’s manager. He also served on the interfraternity council, the United Nations Student Organization and was president of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity.
Stafford worked for the Travelers Insurance Company until 1963, and then was a self-employed insurance broker until 1970. For the next 17 years Stafford served as president of the Rogers and Stafford Inc. an insurance broker firm. During this time, George received his MBA from Syracuse University.
Within his community George served as Chairman of the Board of Managers of the Downtown Syracuse YMCA and as a member of the Metro Onondaga YMCA Board of Directors. He is currently the co-chairman of the Board of Ushers at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Syracuse. Stafford also serves as president of the Syracuse Branch of English Speaking Union and has been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels since 1997. In 1975 he received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Syracuse YMCA.
Stafford served as vice president of the SU Alumni Club of Central New York from 1994–2000. He then became president and now currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors. Stafford was presented with the Dean’s Outstanding Alumni Award from the School of Education in 2000 and the Melvin A. Eggars Senior Alumni Award in 2001. He has been an active member of SU's Varsity Club since his graduation. He is a current member of the Society of Fellows and a member of the Ganders Lecture Committee for the School of Education.
