Richard C. Murphy graduated fromSyracuse University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967. Murphy was a member of the 1963 freshman football team and a member of the varsity football team from 1964-66. In Mr. Murphy’s senior year at SU he began his financial services career. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Active Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1970. While serving in the reserves Murphy began his work as an independent provider of financial services, specializing in business insurance and estate planning. Murphy is a member of the international Million-Dollar Round Table and has served on several international committees through this organization. He is also a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, serving as president for the Syracuse chapter from 1991-92. In 1998, he earned the association’s Distinguished Service Award. Murphy is active in the community, working on many fund raising projects for the Muscular Dystrophy Society and the Leukemia Society. He has also worked on projects for the Ronald McDonald House and Toys for Tots. Murphy has been a Varsity Club member since graduating from Syracuse University in 1967. He is now a lifetime member of the club and a member of the Football Lettermen’s Club. Through the years he has donated to the Ernie Davis Football Club and the Dave Bing Basketball Fund. He has served on the Varsity Club Board since 1979 and served as president from 1995-99. During his reign as president, he also served on the Athletic Policy Board from 1996-99. Murphy served as chairman of the board of the Orange Pack from 1991-95. Since 1977, Murphy has volunteered as a track & field official.
