Charles Pechette served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946.
Currently co-owner and president of Mark III management Corporation, Charles is responsible for the management of 3,000 subsidized and conventional apartments. As president and sole owner of Charter Group, Inc., he has further responsibility for the management of 1,000 apartment units. Since 1968, Charles has constructed and managed over 5,000 apartment units. He is actively in involved in over 25 other business entities as a general partner or corporate officer in the real estate and communications industries. In 1956 Charles founded Merit Homes, Inc., a business which constructed 800 single family homes in Indianapolis from 1956 to 1967.
Charles has held all offices leading up to and including president of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis. He has served as president of Indiana Home Builders and Apartment Association of Home Builders as well as holding other high offices in both organizations.
Along with his wife Jackie (Syracuse ’51), Charles received the Spirit of Philanthropy Award from Indiana University-Purdue University for the Establishment of a scholarship program in the Department of Construction Technology. He has been honored with the Builder of the Year Award by the Builders’’ Association of Greater Indianapolis; the John C. Hart Award, the highest builder award in Indiana; and the Joe Rhodes Memorial Award for outstanding service to the apartment industry.
Active in civic affairs for over 25 years, Charles has served as president and trustee of the Indianapolis Foundation, a $100 million community foundation. He is a board member of the Pleasant Run Children’s Home. Charles has been involved with the St. Mary’s Child Center, English Foundation, Mayor’s Housing Task Force, Public Housing Advisory Board, Indiana State Housing Board, Neighborhood Housing Partnership, Department of Transportation Board and Young Life Urban Committee.
A Varsity Club member since 1965, Charles is a contributor to the Orange Pack and the SU Annual Fund.
