Walked on the Syracuse Rowing team her freshman year in 2001
Member of the varsity eight for three years, which included winning two BIG EAST Rowing Challenge titles and two trips to the NCAA Championships
Received the Orange Plus Scholar Athlete of the Year award in 2005, only the second rower to receive the award
Winner of the Soladay Award in 2005, the highest honor bestowed on a student-athlete at SU
Picked for the CRCA All-American first team in 2003, 2005 and second team in 2004
Member of the CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region All-American first team 2003-2005
Was a recipient of the CRCA National Scholar Athlete Award 2003-2005
Member of the CoSIDA Academic All-American second team in 2005
International Achievements
First place at the 2006 World Rowing Championships – Eton, England – in the U.S. Women’s top eight, setting a world record time of 5:55.50
First place at the 2006 Royal Henley Regatta in England, where they broke the course record by over 10 seconds
Fourth place (by .2 of a second) in the women’s eight at the 2005 World Championships in Gifu, Japan
Gold medal in the championship eight at the Royal Canadian Henley in 2004

U.S. National Team member since 2005 and a frequent contender for top boat
First place in the championship eight category at The Head of the Charles (Boston, MA) in 2005 and 2006

Placed third at the 2005 World Championship in the Dutch Women’s eight in Gifu, Japan
Received the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics in the Dutch Women’s eight
Won the silver medal in the Netherlands’ eight at the 2004 and 2005 World Cup in Luzerne, Switzerland
Silver medal at the 2003 World Cup in Luzerne and World Championships in Milan, Italy
Won various National Championships in Dutch boats from 2002-2005 winning in categories including eights, fours, and pairs…national champion in a pair with former SU rower Froujke Wegman in 2002
Competed in the Dutch top eight at the 2001 World Championship
Member of the Dutch National Team since 2001
Currently: Helen Tanger is working on completing her medical degree at Vrije Universiteit Medical Center in Amsterdam, which she plans to graduate from by the end of 2007.

Received the Lucille Verhulst Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2002, presented each year to an outstanding oarswoman selected by her peers
National and International Achievements
Member of the U.S. Pre-Elite Development Camp in 2002
Finished fourth out of 275 rowers at the 2001 CRASH-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships and placed fifth in 2002
