Position: Head Coach
All-Time Record at SU: 4-5
College Football Hall of Fame Class of 1959
Despite coaching for just eight seasons, Clarence Munn left an indelible mark on college football. Though he is best known for his tenure at Michigan State, Munn got his start at Syracuse, where he led the Orange to a 4-5 record in 1946. While at SU, Munn coached alongside Syracuse alum Hugh "Duffy" Daugherty, another hall of famer.
While he was at Syracuse for only one season, Munn guided the team to its 300th victory, a 28-7 victory over Temple on November 2. By the time he retired from coaching in 1953, Munn had produced 17 All-Americans, guided the Spartans to the 1952 National Championship, and claimed victory in the Rose Bowl following the 1953 season.
He was enshrined to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1959 in a class of ten, which included Doak Walker, for whom the award for the nation's top running back is named.
