Lewis P. Andreas, 1927-29
Head Coach
All-Time Record at SU: 15-10-3 (.536)
Perhaps more well-known as the longtime director of athletics and coach of the SU men's basketball team, Lewis P. Andreas proved he could lead the troops on the gridiron as well. The 17th head coach of the SU football program, Andreas never had a losing season in his three years.
Andreas' tenure was a wild ride for SU football fans that included several lopsided victories. The 1929 season featured wins of 77-0, 55-0 and 85-6 against Hobart, St. Lawrence and Johns Hopkins, respectively. The Hobart contest is notable for being the first night game played in the East.
Andreas handed his whistle to Vic Hanson in 1930 so he could concentrate on Orange basketball, coaching SU on the hardwood until 1950.
