Student Athlete Quotes
Syracuse vs. Binghamton
March 4, 2008
Carrier Dome- Syracuse, N.Y.
Halley Quillinan, Sophomore, Attack
On her yellow card
“I got a yellow card early, and obviously I got into that kind of trouble down in Virginia too. So, coach told me to control my stick and get in proper position before I check.”
On her defensive play after her yellow card
“I was trying to do body position and trying to play good defense and not rely on the check. That was my focus for the rest of the game.”
On her career-high six goals
“I was excited because I couldn’t play for 40 minutes in the Virginia game. So, I was excited to just get out and play today.”
On her playing midfield this year
“I knew I was going to play midfield coming in. Actually we’re moving around a lot and a lot of girls are running midfield, so we’re testing some new things out. I tried to get into good shape so I could run the midfield this year, so that’s what I focused on in the offseason.”
Kristin Brady, Senior, Attack
On trying out “flashy” moves
“I think sometimes I consciously think about it. When I’m on- on-one with the goalie, I think why not? I’m sure others will begin to do things like that. We’ve definitely been switching up the shots. Like the other game, Halley (Quillinan) ripped an eight-meter shot without running in and that’s not conventional. So, we’re definitely doing some different things.”
On the importance of bouncing back after the Virginia game
“It’s definitely important. I think it’s more important to keep improving and learn from your mistakes and get better.”
On Coach Gait’s expectations of the team
“He wants us to do well all the time. It doesn’t matter if we’re down 10 or if we’re up 10, he wants the same level of intensity all the time.”
Katie Rowan, Junior, Attack
On the ability to feed it to Halley Quillinan
“We played in high school together, so I think we have a pretty good connection. We know where each other is on the field all the time. The cuts in the middle, she’s tough to defend with the left hand. So I think she did really well tonight and had a great game.”
On playing road games after the loss at Virginia
“Notre Dame is a top 20 team and they’re one of our BIG EAST rivals. So we have to go focused, work hard this week and next week, and just prepare for them.”
On playing against her high school friends
“It was really fun to play against some people you know from the past, and it was really nice to see them.”
On having a lot of assists in the game
“I’m always looking to score. Tonight, the dodges weren’t always there, so I was looking to feed it to Halley [Quillinan] and Awehiyo [Thomas], and all the other girls too.”
On becoming more of a complete player
“I try to always be ready to score, but I also try to look to the middle for the open players too.”
On playing without Bridget Looney
“Bridget is a tough player with all of her ground balls. We’ll miss her toughness and we’ll have to step up for now.”
