Postgame Player Quotes
Syracuse vs. Princeton
Saturday, April 5, 2008
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Brendan Loftus, Sr., Midfield
On adjusting to their defense:
“I think they were being extra aggressive, keying towards Mike [Leveille] and [Kenny] Nims. I think we were just trying to take what we could get up top, just really trying to dodge nice and deep, and try to draw the slide and make our looks.”
Steven Brooks, Sr., Midfield
On combating their defense:
“We have six guys out there that can score a goal. Mike [Leveille] is a big player on our team, so when they shut him off you have other people that can step up, and we did today.”
On Brendan Loftus’ play:
“He plays awesome. He’s a big asset to us out there. If they pole me, he goes right to the goal. If they pole him, then I go right to the goal. He’s a big guy to have, and when he puts his shoulder down he puts it in the back of the net every time. He’s a real good player and I love playing with him.”
Mike Leveille, Sr., Attack
On playing against their defense:
“[Dan] Cocoziello is a great player, and he has been all four years, and I knew he was going to be a big test for me today. I thought our midfield did a good job of drawing a slide and moving it, and just burying the ball. It took a lot of pressure off of our attack and that’s why we’re so strong right now, we can beat them at midfield and attack.”
On the team’s confidence:
“We’re just trying to go week-by-week and game-by-game. We’re not trying to get ahead of ourselves. We have a huge game Tuesday night against Cornell and we’re just going to get back to work and improve on the things that need improving.”
On playing hard from start to finish
“I think from the fall we’ve dedicated ourselves to working hard and we know if we go out and work hard and execute our offense and defense, we know we’re going to have a good chance of winning. We really try to play a full 60 minutes when we’re out there.”
Evan Brady, Sr., Defense
On preparing the offense in practice:
“I think you have to credit the guys who don’t see the field. Those are the guys that really go against them a lot, especially in man-up situations and six-on-six. They’re the ones who push them to the level they’re at now.”
On the difference between this year and last year:
“It’s everything. It’s our middie play, short-stick D-middies, bringing in Sid [Smith], bringing in a new goalie and a new defensive coach. I think we just got back to the basics and our goal is to keep teams in check. We have to play as disciplined as possible.”
