Syracuse vs. Georgetown
April 5, 2008
Carrier Dome-Syracuse, N.Y.
Katie Rowan, Junior, Attack
On breaking two school records:
"It’s awesome, just the whole game was great. Everyone played awesome. Liz (Hogan) had an amazing game. We really had a lot of opportunities on attack and we took advantage of them. It turned out really well for us.
"Breaking the record was nice, but we were really focusing on getting the win. It’s the first time we’ve beaten Georgetown in the regular season, so it’s a great feeling and we’re really excited."
On what the key to the game was :
"Our defense had a lot of great stops. Today on attack we really wanted to possess the ball. They came over to double, but we were still able to move the ball around a lot today."
Liz Hogan, Freshman, Goalie
On her play in net:
"I think they had pretty good shots, but a lot of them were hitting the post which was unfortunate for them. I’ve really been working on my saves all week, and that helped me against their quality shots today."
On advice given from assistant coach Maggie Koch:
"She knew a lot about them, and she was able to give me hints and tips of where I could expect the ball to go.
"It was really nice to represent Maggie with my play today. She has taught me a lot since I’ve been here. It’s a boost for me too. I’ve struggled in some games and she’s helped to turn my game around."
Christina Dove, Sophomore, Midfield
On avoiding double coverages:
"I guess we knew that they were going to slide quickly, so we knew to get open and get open on the crease and that helped us move the ball fast."
Kristin Brady, Junior, Attack
On beating a top 10 team:
"It means a lot because we hadn’t really played a lot of teams in the top 20, so we didn’t really know where we fell on the list. I think this game really showed us that we really are a top five team."
On what the team learned from playing unranked teams:
"It’s hard because you really want to bring you’re A-game all the time. But it’s hard when you’re playing teams that aren’t necessarily at your level. I think those games made us more mentally tough, and it was really important today to come out strong and relentless and play smart."
