Syracuse in the BIG EAST
2007
The Orange returned to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since the 2005 season following a 21-13 overall mark and an 8-6 record in conference play. Syracuse, seeded eighth, suffered a 3-0 (23-30, 24-30, 20-30) loss to top-seeded Louisville in the opening round played at Marquette's Al McGuire Center.
2005
Syracuse entered the tournament as the third seed in the new eight-team field. After falling behind 0-2 to sixth-seeded Pittsburgh, the Orange rallied and won in five games (21-30, 25-30, 30-20, 30-27, 15-12) to beat the Panthers for the first time ever in postseason play. Syracuse then lost to second-seed Louisville in the semifinals, 3-1 (23-30, 18-30, 30-28, 25-30).
2004
The Orange returned to the tournament for the first time since it was changed to a four-team format. Syracuse entered as the third seed and lost to second-seed Pittsburgh in three games (25-30, 22-30, 19-30) in the semifinals.
1999
Syracuse played the role of underdog in its opening-round match against Providence. As the sixth seed, SU defeated the No. 3 Friars, 3-2 (10-15, 15-7, 15-10, 9-15, 15-11). The Orange advanced to the semifinals where it lost to eventual champion Georgetown in five games.
1997
The Orange returned to the tournament as the fourth seed for the second consecutive year. SU lost to Pittsburgh in five games (15-5, 15-7, 9-15, 13-15, 15-7) in the first round.
1996
Syracuse opened the tournament with a 3-0 (15-12, 9-15, 15-4, 12-15, 19-17) win against Connecticut in the first round before losing to eventual champion Notre Dame in the semifinals.
1993
SU entered the tournament as the sixth seed and lost in the first round to third-seed Connecticut.
1992
SU beat Georgetown to advance to the semifinal against Pittsburgh, but lost to the Panthers. The Orange beat Seton Hall to take third place in the tournament.
1991
The Orange beat Seton Hall and Villanova to advance to the championship match, but finished second, losing to Pittsburgh in the finals. The second-place finish was the third for SU in five years.
1990
Syracuse beat Connecticut in the first round, but lost to Georgetown to qualify for the third-place match against Seton Hall. The Orange defeated the Pirates, 15-8, 12-15, 15-6, 15-7.
1989
After winning its first two matches against Boston College and Georgetown, second-seeded SU lost to top-seed Pittsburgh in the championship match. Senior co-captain Terri Hibner and sophomore Sherry Cowling earned all-tournament honors for the second consecutive year.
1988
For the first time in team history, two players earned all-tournament honors. Freshman Sherry Cowling and junior Terri Hibner were selected to the team after leading the second-seeded Orange to the finals. Syracuse rolled to 3-0 wins against Seton Hall and Georgetown before losing to top-seed Pittsburgh.
1987
SU opened with wins against Georgetown and Seton Hall. The Orange then lost to Pittsburgh before coming back against Villanova to qualify for the semifinals.SU dropped a close semifinal match to Georgetown, 12-15, 12-15, 9-15.
1986
Syracuse defeated Boston College, 3-2, in the first round, but lost to eventual champion Pittsburgh in the semifinals. SU lost to Georgetown in the third-place match and finished fourth in the tournament.
1985
Dani Loch earned a spot on the all-tournament team for the second consecutive year, leading the Orange to a fourth-place finish. SU beat Connecticut, but lost to Pittsburgh and Georgetown.
1984
For the second consecutive year, Syracuse finished third at the tournament. SU’s Kris Terrillion was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year and sophomore Dani Loch was voted to the all-tournament team as Syracuse, the third seed, finished 2-1 in the tournament.
1983
As the seventh seed in the tournament, the Orange tied for third place with a win against Georgetown and losses to Connecticut and Pittsburgh.
1982
Syracuse was seeded fifth in the inaugural conference tournament and finished with a 1-2 match record, losing to Villanova and Pittsburgh, and defeating Seton Hall.
