Northeastern Football Post Game Quotes
Syracuse vs. Northeastern
Carrier Dome – Syracuse, N.Y.
September 20, 2008
Northeastern Coach Rocky Hager:
“When they went to the two tight-ends formation, it created some creases. It may also have been a case of the extra 22 scholarships showing up in the results, as we tired.”
“Our offense got in rhythm once we got a chance to see how the safeties were playing. If we didn’t have the one tipped pass and that one fumble. I would like to see that fumble on video, too.”
“Our offensive line competed very nicely. They gave protection and got the safeties to come up in the box. It gave us some chances down the field in the passing game.”
On the last Syracuse offensive series of the game:
“Just before the defensive unit went out, we huddled and I told them to give us the stop and we would come back and get the winning score. I don’t know if we just wore out there.”
On the Syracuse fumble before the end of the first half:
“That was a big momentum changer. Up until that time, I think you could get the impression that we were getting our rear ends kicked.”
On the Syracuse scoring drive to open the second half:
“Give them some credit. They knew how to get some leverage. The running backs recognized that they had some creases and cutbacks.”
On QB Anthony Orio:
“He had applied to medical school, so if he was there, he wouldn’t be our QB today. He is a great kid, and makes the right decisions. I hope he is my doctor someday.”
Northeastern QB Anthony Orio:
“We saw last week that they played a lot of man against Penn State. We were pretty sure if they played man against them, they would play man against us.”
“I would like to have the first play of the game back. My receivers did a tremendous job. I can’t say enough about them. It is great to have that big target (TE Brian Mandeville) downfield.”
On the last Syracuse offensive drive:
“It brings you back to high school. You would love to play two ways. We just didn’t get one last chance, but we win and lose as a team.”
On the turnover by Syracuse and subsequent Northeastern score:
“That had us coming in at the half sky-high. We made plays after that.”
“It was a great experience playing in the Dome. We had a blast. It is a great atmosphere.”
TE Brian Mandeville:
“Anthony (Orio) roamed with me as I was running downfield, and he threw some great balls.”
“We came here expecting to win. They have a good running game, and they kept the chains moving at the end. We didn’t get that one last chance.”
