
#6 Orange Topped by #1 North Carolina in ACC Semifinals

No. 6 Syracuse (13-5) saw its ACC Tournament run come to an end in the semifinal round on Friday, falling to No. 1 North Carolina (15-1) 19-9 at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Emma Muchnick logged three goals in the loss, giving her seven total for the tournament. Alexa Vogelman tacked on two goals to supplement the scoring. The defense was led by Izzy Lahah's five caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Chloe Humphrey, the nation's leading scorer, logged nine points on five goals and four assists. Addison Patillo had four goals in the win as well.

The Tar Heels struck first, but Muchnick got even moments later to knot the game up at 1-1. North Carolina responded with six unanswered goals in just over three minutes to take a 7-1 advantage at the 7:51 mark of the first quarter. Syracuse got a couple back, but the Tar Heels led 8-3 by the end of the quarter.

Mileena Cotter scored on a free position shot in the second quarter, but the Tar Heels scored three more goals to take a 12-4 edge into the break.

The Orange scored four goals in the fourth quarter, with Muchnick, Vogelman, Bri Peters and Mackenzie Rich each scoring. Yet, the Tar Heels nearly matched the Orange with three goals to keep a 15-8 edge.

The Tar Heels buried a few more in the fourth to finish off a 19-9 victory.

Syracuse will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday, May 3 during the NCAA's Selection Show, which is set to air at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
