Syracuse Player Quotes (November 16, 2009)
Vionca Murray, Senior, Forward
On the game:
“We definitely had an advantage on the outside and inside, so we had to use that. We just wanted to come out and not take anything for granted and just play hard no matter what.”
On getting good position:
“I just wanted to get position. That is where I can score and I am confident, so I just wanted to make sure I could get position and (yelled) for the ball and they got it to me.”
On being 100 percent and at full strength this year:
“I am looking forward to a good season. I’m healthy, so I am just looking forward and moving on.”
On struggling with free throws:
“I am definitely disappointed with that. I am going to be in the gym tomorrow working on my free throws. It is something I need to improve on. It was a lack of focus. I am going to fix that, don’t worry.”
Juanita Ward, Senior, Forward
On playing at SU pace:
“I think we did a really good job executing what Coach (Hillsman) put on the board for us, play hard. Vionca (Murray) did a really good job executing at that possession. I think our team did very good at that possession.”
On if this is her favorite game:
“I can’t say that it is my favorite game. I probably can say that our team did really well and that our team really liked this game a lot.”
On if Coach Quentin Hillsman liked the fade away 3-pointer:
“He had faith in me. Regardless of what it was. I still think he had faith in it.”
On face guarding:
“Honestly, you have to believe in something. As a team, we really believe in what Coach Q tells us what to do on an off the court. I think we really came together as a team and really face guarded them really well so they couldn’t get anything.”
On always looking for the steal and being disappointed when not getting it:
“I mean, that’s basketball. It happens.”
On post presence:
“It is very important. Coach always tells us to get the ball down low because he knows and believes in the post players. It was very important for us to get the ball down low.”
Lynnae Lampkins, Sophomore, Guard
On if this is her favorite game:
“Yes, I guess. We all just came out and we were ready to play. I told them before the game that I was going to push the ball, so just run. That is what we did.”
On depth of point guard position:
“I get a lot of rest. Running a lot takes up energy. We make each other better all the time in practice. We just go at each other and rotate.”
On what the team needs to work on:
“Defense, mostly. I think I need to command the floor more and work on keeping the ball in front of me.”
On how comfortable she is with the pace of the game:
“I have been doing that my whole life, so just running and pushing the ball is natural.”
