TEAM NOTES
- Saturday’s game was the 58th meeting between Syracuse and West Virginia.
- The win was SU's first against West Virginia since 2001.
- It was the first victory at Mountaineer Field for the Orange since 2000.
- It was Syracuse’s first victory against a ranked opponent on the road since beating #18/19 Louisville (38-35) on Sept. 22, 2007.
- SU improved to 3-1 in road games this season.
- The Orange improved to 4-0 when leading at the half this season.
- Thw win was SU's 682nd all-time football victory, 15th-most among Football Bowl Subdivision teams.
- The Orange’s 19 first-half points were the most for the team in an opening half this season.
- Syracuse forced three turnovers against West Virginia. It’s fourth time in five games the Orange recorded multiple takeaways.
- Syracuse improved to 4-0 on the season when registering at least two takeaways.
- The Orange’s three interceptions at West Virginia were its most since it picked off three passes against Connecticut in 2008.
- Anthony Perkins was the Orange’s game captain at West Virginia. He joined Ryan Bartholomew, Derrell Smith and Rob Long at midfield for the opening coin toss.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Running back Delone Carter surpassed Damien Rhodes (2,461 yards) for eighth on Syracuse’s career rushing list. Carter gained 75 yards against West Virginia and has 2,508 career rushing yards.
- Quarterback Ryan Nassib threw his 12th touchdown pass of the season, a 29-yard strike to Van Chew in the first quarter, tying him for 11th on SU’s season record list and 12th on the team’s career list for most touchdown passes. For Chew, it was his team-leading fourth TD reception.
- Linebacker Doug Hogue intercepted a career-best two passes Saturday. He is the first SU player to pick off two passes in the same game since Mike Holmes versus Rutgers in 2009.
- Safety Phillip Thomas also made his first interception of the year, and the third of his career, in the first half.
- Kicker Ross Krautman established a career high with four made field goals, all in the first half. It’s the eighth time an SU kicker made four field goals in a single contest and the first time since Nate Trout achieved the feat against Tulane on Oct. 2, 1999.
- Defensive end Chandler Jones tied his career high with two quarterback sacks raising his season total to four. He also had two sacks against Maine earlier this season.
- Running back Antwon Bailey gained a season-best 94 yards rushing at West Virginia on 19 carries.
- Punter Rob Long moved into second place on SU’s all-time punting yards list. He now has 10,186 yards, passing Mike Shafer (10,073 yards).
