Student-Athlete Postgame Quotes
vs. Cornell
Syracuse vs. Cornell
November 30, 2010
Syracuse, N.Y. – Carrier Dome
Freshman Guard Dion Waiters
You shot the three pretty consistently and with a lot of confidence. Do you feel confident with that?
“I feel very comfortable because I work hard at practice and after practice. I am the first and the last one to leave the gym. We practice those shots everyday so I just have confidence in my jump shot.”
Brandon (Triche) has been struggling to make plays for the past few games.
“I have to be that guy to come in. I am passing the ball a lot and hitting a lot of open guys. I am just playing my game and coming in ready to play.”
Senior Forward Rick Jackson
What is the difference this year? Are you more aware of where the ball is or are you just in the right spot on the court?
“I have been rebounding for so long so I know where the ball is going to come off. I feel like I’m moving quicker, a little bit more physical and I have lost some weight. I feel more explosive.”
There were times in the game where Cornell had a little bit of a run. You had a couple of big buckets through the stretch -- did you call for the ball at that point?
“Coach made a point of telling the guys to give me the ball. He felt that I had a little guy on me. They usually double me but they didn’t double me this game so if I didn’t have a good shot I was able to find guys.”
Overall all how did you feel about the game?
“Cornell was a good team but Coach wants us to get ready for the next two games. They are really big and it will show what type of team we are. He doesn’t want our heads to get too big. All we can do is listen to him and he has been around for a while so he knows what he is talking about.”
Junior Forward Kris Joseph
Three straight games for you where you have help carry the scoring load. What has been the difference the last two games versus the first three games?
“Confidence. The William & Mary game was a confidence booster for me. Atlantic City was another two games where showed what I could really do.”
How do you get the rest of the team’s confidence up? They own it but then seemingly the team struggles.
“We did not play as well as we can .Coach expects more out of us and we expect more out of ourselves. We can definitely play better than that. We had 20 turnovers against Cornell. If we have 20 turnovers against a team like Pittsburgh of UConn we would probably loss by 20 or so. We have to get sharper and execute better on the offensive and the defensive end.”
North Carolina State is here on Saturday. When you play ACC teams is it more about BIG EAST against ACC to show up the different conference?
“No, it is about us. It is about what we need to do to get wins and that is to play great defense and execute on offense.”
