Syracuse Post-Game Quotes
Syracuse vs. Stanford
February 21, 2010
Carrier Dome
Coach Gary Gait
On what got the team going so quickly:
“I think it was the team’s first big challenge of the year, the first weekend of lacrosse. We played a strong opponent in Stanford, a very good team, ranked #12 in the country. We had prepared for this game and tried not to show what we were going to do on Friday (against Colgate). We ran different offenses and different defenses on Friday. I think they were pretty excited about that. When we came out, we executed and everything seemed to work. That's what you always hope for.”
On the draw controls:
“We did a great job on that – Christina Dove and Halley (Quillinan) and everybody else at taking the draws. It was a team effort and we've been really working hard on draw controls. We were happy on Friday (against Colgate) with how they went. We have different teams out there this year, which is something new. We have three different lineups for the draw, trying to keep players fresh and keep groups together that work well together. We'll continue with that.”
On the start of the season:
It’s a good start to the season. We have lots to work on. We’re always looking to execute better offensively and defensively, be a little more consistent on our transitions. Overall, great weekend and we're ready to move forward and look at Virginia.”
On Michelle Tumolo:
Michelle (Tumolo) is our first blue-chip recruit since I've been here. She's probably the highest-rated recruit to come Syracuse. She's done a tremendous job stepping in and she knew her role and she's done a nice job. She looks comfortable and confident. I can’t ask for anymore than that out of a freshman.”
Senior Christina Dove
On the draw controls:
“It's definitely key, winning the draws. That's like an instant possession. Our team is able to get the ball down, get some momentum, and move the ball on offense.”
On today's start to the game compared the season opener against Colgate:
“I think the first game everyone was a little bit nervous and it was a little bit rushed. This game, we really got comfortable and were able to move the ball. They were pressuring us pretty tightly in the beginning and we were able to move the ball and get some confidence early on.”
On her streak of 42 consecutive games with a goal:
“I don't like to think about that kind of stuff. You just come out hard every game. You come out strong and I try to play my game. I don’t think of stats like that, but I think it's important to come out strong every game and help the team anyway I can.”
Senior Halley Quillinan
On the first weekend of play:
“It was good to go out and play somebody else. We have been playing each other in practice for about a month-and-a-half now. It was good to get out on the field and play another opponent, definitely two strong opponents in Colgate and Stanford. We were happy to get those wins.”
On the switch back to midfield:
“I think I'm picking up were I left off. I love being a midfielder, starting with the ball, getting draw controls. I really feel like I'm able to be on both sides of the ball and I love that part of my game. I really need to pick it up on the offensive end. I don't think I had a solid weekend.”
