Postgame Quotes
Syracuse vs. Georgetown
Saturday, March 13, 2010
Carrier Dome/Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach John Desko
On what he told the players when they were only up by one goal:
"We told them that we needed to have possessions and when we get the ball on offense, we need to settle down. Touch the ball once or twice to get comfortable and make them play a little defense. They had a lot of possessions especially in the third quarter. They were good, time-consuming possessions and we did not capitalize on their unsettled situations. Basically, we just needed to get the momentum back our way, get the ball and settle it down."
On the pace of play:
"We talked about it coming in that this could be a higher scoring game than usual. We knew both teams were going to have a lot of opportunities. Neither team was going to back down to one another. I felt playing Virginia a week ago was good preparation for going into this game. They are very similar teams."
On Jeremy Thompson's goal off the faceoff:
"He has answered for us a number of times this year when the other team has had the momentum. Sometimes the other team will come back in the game and the score has been close and all of a sudden Jeremy will put one out the front and score or get an assist off the faceoff and he really gets the momentum to come back our way."
On John Galloway's 70-yard pass down the field in the first half:
"We are used to it. I know the fans take a deep breath and marvel at it, but we see it in practice all the time. He has an uncanny sense for finding the open man. If he was an attackman, he would probably have a ton of assists, but he does just a remarkable job of finding the open man."
On Josh Amidon's performance:
"It is good to see one of our upper classmen take charge and put some points up on the board. I thought Jeremy and Jovan did a good job, too. I think he (Amidon) got his goals a little from the faceoff and the transition, off settled situations and I think he had a man-up goal, too. He scored in a lot of different ways."
Jovan Miller, Junior, Midfield
On the physicality of the game:
"I felt it got out of control for a minute. There were a few clean hits and a few high ones, but the refs started clamping down because it looked like it was getting a little bit out of control."
On whether the team was nervous when it became a one-goal game:
"As juniors we all know its our time to step up. When you panic the game starts to trend that way. We tried to keep our composure."
John Lade, Junior, Defense
On how it felt to play his first game back:
"It felt great. I love playing with these guys. The defense played really well today. Our offense did a great job all game keeping us in it. It felt good to be back playing with the guys."
