Coach Boeheim Quotes vs. Cal State LA
Coach Boeheim Quotes
Cal-State LA

Opening Statement:
“I thought we did a reasonably good job defensively tonight. In the second half we fouled too much, we fouled the dribbler and that’s something we have to learn, but their team really was patient and they moved the ball, they were patient on offense and that was good for us.
“I think offensively – well, it takes a little while to get going offensively. We didn’t shoot it very well in the first half. We did a little bit better in the second half. I thought Fab and Baye were really good. They were really active. I think they showed a lot of advancement from last year.
"For the rest of the guys, I thought everyone else got an opportunity to get going in the new season. I think we can learn and there’s a lot of good teaching points out there from this game. I think it was a good game for us and will help us with our preparation going forward."
How has Fab changed this season?
“I think he’s just in better condition. He’s more ready and he’s understanding more of what it is about. I think he’s in better shape and better able to get up and down. He’s always had good skills. He’s just got to get up and down better and I think he’s doing that. He’s very active, going after balls and there are a lot of positives from both him and Baye."
How important was Scoop’s play?
“He started off the game with three really nice passes -- got the ball to people and I think he was really aggressive offensively to start the second half. That’s the way he’s gotta play. I think Brandon was very aggressive and that’s the way we want to see him. He got 11 shots up in 15 minutes. The last two years it would have taken him 35 minutes so he was very aggressive. They just didn’t go in. But, those are all shots he can make and he can go 8-for-11. I thought that was a real good sign that he was very, very aggressive and looking to make plays."
How does having Dion and C.J come off the bench affect this team?
“I think they can come in and play like starters. I think they are capable of that. I think Baye plays like he is coming out and starting. We really think that Michael (Carter-Williams) can come off the bench. He made some freshman mistakes but that’s normal. But, I thought everybody was aggressive. That’s a good thing.
Kris has not been able to practice full speed. I think he had a good night, but he wasn’t ready defensively. He hasn’t done some defensive drills that we’ve done. He’s missed those and it showed. He was not good on the defensive end of the court. He was aggressive offensively and I think he needs to get a week or so of practice in and he’ll be back closer to where he needs to be."
How did the freshmen play?
“I though they did fine. Obviously, they are not ready to be out there and it’s fortunate that they are not because they won’t be out there all the time. But, they’re good players. They are playing behind guys that are more experienced and probably better players. I think Michael can play and I think Rakeem (Christmas) helps us. He can rebound the ball and I think he will get better as the season goes along, as will Michael. They are two outstanding players and they have a great situation where they can learn about the game but still get to contribute. The practices have been great. They have been able to see what some high-quality players are like and I think it has been good for them."
