Welcome Syracuse Orange Volleyball fans! This is your
all-access look at the Syracuse Orange Volleyball team as they train for the upcoming 2012 season. This year's Preseason Central will feature daily updates including exclusive video blogs, interviews and photo albums all leading up to the season opener at Colgate in the Colgate Classic on August 24th. Preseason is winding down and we are get closer and closer to the season opener this Friday against Illinois-Chicago in the Colgate Classic at 4 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y.
This morning the Orange squad worked out bright and early at 8:00 a.m., before moving into the Melo Center to work on drills and do some scrimmaging.

Great news! The Orange volleyball squad was picked to finish fifth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll!
Senior Sam Hinz and junior Linsday McCabe were also selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team!

Did you get a chance to check out the video blog detailing the ropes course trip that the volleyball team took yesterday?
The volleyball squad returned to the Melo Center this morning for practice from 8 to noon. This after noon practice will be scheduled from 2:00 t0 5:00 p.m. so the team can head over to the soccer stadium to support the men's soccer team as they take on Monroe College at 5 p.m.

This morning's session started off with a strength and conditioning session and then led into the first orange and blue team scrimmage of preseason.

Not much to report over the weekend. The team participated in a scavenger hunt on Sunday and reported to the Melo Center bright and early for practice this morning.
Several Syracuse Volleyball fans showed up to the Carrier Dome to visit with the team and get autographs.

Today the team got started with an early workout at 8:00 a.m., before heading to the Melo Center to get in some time on the court.
This afternoon, the volleyball team will be signing autographs and hanging out with fans at the annual Orange Fanfest celebration, which begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Dome. Then it's back to practice from 4-6 p.m.

Is there any difference going from a roster of 18 to this year's roster of 14?
"I think it will be a lot better because in practice everyone will be able to get more touches on the ball and more reps. I also think that it will make the team a lot closer just like you get closer to a smaller group of people rather than a bigger group of people."
As one of three seniors this year, do you feel any added responsibility?
"You always feel like this is your last year and the last time you get to do it, but at the same time I think we are all just ready to start the season and get going."

Sophomore OH Andrea Fisher
Last year all three graduating seniors were outside
hitters, like you. Do you feel any responsibility to
step up this season as a leader?
"I think there are still a bunch of outside hitters here from last
year who are really strong who could have also been
playing on the court at the same time, so I feel like we still
have a good group of people left."
Coming off the best conference finish since 2005, is
there anything specific the team is looking to continue
improving during preseason?
"We want to improve on everything, we know we can
do better than we did last year and we don't want to be
satisfied with a fourth place finish in the conference."
