Connecticut Student-Athlete Quotes
Chandler Whitmer, Senior Quarterback
The importance of this game:
“We are competitive guys. It is tough, you want to win games. It’s rough when you get beat like that. It’s a shot to your pride. You have to keep your head up high and keep fighting. I’m proud of our guys. They did that, it just didn’t come out the way we wanted it to.”
On taking hits:
“It’s part of the game, that’s football. Everybody is out there fighting and I’m not going to quit because I get hit. I am going to get up for the next play and fight.”
On Syracuse’s performance:
“Credit to them, they played well. They brought some pressure we weren’t able to handle. They got out in front early and it was tough to fight back.”
On Syracuse’s defense:
“They do a good job of game-planning a blitz each week. They brought the free safety Will weak on us and we had a hard time picking that up. We saw it multiple times and we have to be able to adjust to that.”
How team stays positive:
“We know what we are capable of, we definitely know that. It’s just tough every time you go out and get beat like that. You know the talent you have and it’s a matter of putting it all together and making it happen.”
On not scoring in the second half since the Buffalo game:
“It’s tough as an offense. You want to score points and try to help your defense out. We have to continue coming out and finish games and fight.”
Nick Williams, Senior, Wide Receiver
On three losses and how to make it not continue:
“Just that we are a team and any time you win you win as a team and you lose as a team. We can’t point the finger we have to stick together all through phases and remember the team has to come together and be strong.”
On losing momentum:
“Early on it was 6-3. It was a regular game on the road and it seemed we couldn’t stay on the field and they stayed on the field and got some points. They had a good night rushing and we became one-dimensional. Anytime you go down in a game that’s what happens, we had to start passing. All three phases we didn’t make big plays. They made some big ones and it showed in the score.”
Disappointment about tonight:
“It’s very disappointing. Guys are upset, but there is nothing we can do about what happened just now. We have to go get it and correct it. We have a bye week, hopefully we have some bodies fresh and start working on South Florida.”
Ruben Frank, Redshirt Sophomore, Full Back
On QB Chandler:
“Chandler is one of the toughest kids on our team as a quarterback. He has a lot of will power and works hard because that is what we are supposed to do.”
On rest of season:
“We have to keep working and buy into what the coaches are saying. Things should be perfectly fine.”
