Chuck Richards, 1965 (Basketball)
Chuck Richards graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in management in 1965. He was a member of the varsity basketball team for four years, serving as co-captain for two seasons. He earned honorable mention Academic All-America honors in 1965. In 1963-64, Richards averaged 22 points per game, was chosen to the ECAC All-East Team and tied the school record for the most free throws made in one game with 17 against Pittsburgh on Feb. 7, 1964. Richards was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, where he served as an officer and pledge coordinator. He was a member of the Dean’s list and a member of the Civil War Roundtable. Upon graduating from SU, he began his business career, joining his father’s Chevrolet dealership in a management capacity. He stayed with the dealership for three years before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent. After training in Washington, DC he served in Indianapolis, IN and Charlotte, NC. During his more than 28 years of service to the FBI he was trained as a firearms instructor, defensive tactics instructor and a special weapons and tactics (SWAT) instructor. Richards used this expertise to train local law enforcement officers and FBI Agents. He represented the FBI to all print and electronic media outlets in the state of North Carolina. Richards has served on several boards and committees throughout his community. He has counseled candidates for the United States Military Academy - West Point and for Syracuse University. He served on the Board of the Charlotte Sportsman’s Club, and has coached several North Carolina youth soccer and basketball teams. Richards has been a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church for more than 30 years. He has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the Room at the Inn. He was a Co-Chairman for fund raising for Boy Scouts of America and was a volunteer for the Thompson Home for Underprivileged Children. Richards’ wife is also a 1965 graduate of Syracuse University, and received her Master’s degree in 1966.
