Player Quotes
Carrier Dome – Syracuse, N.Y.
Trevor Cooney, Redshirt Sophomore, Guard
What does the team have to work on the most?
“Defensively, we need to move better on the 2-3 as a unit and, offensively, getting up and going and rebounding and pushing it up the floor.”
BJ Johnson has been struggling to find his shot in these two games. Is there something you tell a guy like that?
“Keep shooting. He’s a good shooter and he makes shots in practice. He’ll be fine and make shots in a game.”
Tyler Ennis, Freshman, Guard
Did you know any of the Ryerson players?
“Yeah, I knew a couple of guys on the team and I have played under (Ryerson) Coach (Roy) Rana.”
“How weird was it for you when Coach Boeheim said you needed to be more aggressive and realizing you may need to be a bit more aggressive at this level of play?”
“When the defense covers Trevor (Cooney) on the fastbreak that opens up a lot for me and when the defense covers the big men down low it leaves me open to shoot or pass the ball to my teammates. It’s adjusting to the game and the style of play. If C.J. (Fair) and the bigs are on fire it makes it easier for me.”
What do you think you are improving on the most?
“Strength wise I’ve been in the weight room a lot, and being a better leader and becoming more vocal on the floor. Coach wants me to be a vocal leader, I know I am a young guy but the position calls for me to be a leader on the court.”
What do you know about Cornell and how excited are you to open up the regular season?
“Cornell is a disciplined team but during the season opener we should be coming out hard and playing well.”
C.J. Fair, Senior, Forward
You had a few opportunities to shoot some threes and then other times you were a bit hesitant, can you explain why?
“A few times I hesitated because it wasn’t the right play when we were supposed to get it to the big men down low.”
How confident are you going into the season with Tyler Ennis, a freshman, leading the team?
“I see a lot of confidence in his play. He is a smart player and rarely makes the wrong decision. I’m having fun playing with him and I’m eager to see how he grows as a point guard.”
