QUARTERBACKS
Return to 2013 Football Preview
The responsibility for finding a replacement for one of the program’s all-time best signal callers falls on first-year quarterback coach Tim Lester. Ryan Nassib virtually rewrote the passing chapter of the Syracuse record book in his time with the Orange. He departed the program ranked first in career passing yards (9,190), attempts (1,312) and completions (791), and second in touchdown passes (70). Nassib also quarterbacked SU to two bowl-game triumphs.
Lester heads to camp with six candidates. The most experienced contender is senior Charley Loeb. The lefthander is one of nine three-time letter winners on the roster. Sophomore Terrel Hunt claimed the top spot on the pre-camp depth chart after an impressive spring with the Orange. Junior John Kinder was also in the heat of the battle during spring workouts.
Of three newcomers on the roster, senior Drew Allen may attract the most intrigue. A PrepStar All-American, Allen was a backup quarterback at Oklahoma for three seasons. Allen transferred to Syracuse for his final year of eligibility. Freshman Mitch Kimble was an all-state selection at Jersey Community HS (Ill.) and fellow rookie Austin Wilson from East Pennsboro HS (Pa.) earned all-conference and all-county honors as a junior and senior.
