Head Coach Jim Boeheim Quotes
Syracuse Basketball
Syracuse vs. Colgate
December 22, 2014
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Jim Boeheim
Opening Statement:
“We made some shots early that helped. Their defense was better. Their shooter was much better and they were much better overall. I think the last couple weeks have been good for us.“
“I think we have gotten better, I still think there is room for improvement but we get a couple days off. I think we have worked hard and I think the players need a couple days off and come back up here and get ready for the last two non-conference games and get set for conference play.”
How do you think your team is progressing?
“I think that we are getting a little better movement on offense and defense. We are finding our shooters a little better. There is still a long way to go, a lot of work to do. I thought that we were really good in the first half taking care of the basketball and in the second half we made four or five just really bad unforced errors that you can’t make in tough games, tough situations, you just can’t make those kinds of turnovers. Hopefully we will keep working and get better.”
After Saturday’s tough loss, how important was it to have a game like tonight?
“You just want to get to the next game and move on. It’s a long season and you can’t dwell on what has already happened.”
This season, are you planning on having Rakeem Christmas be a force on the offense or just assist in production?
“I’m not surprised. I think he’s getting better. He is capable of these kind of games every game, absolutely.”
As far as Kaleb Joseph, where do you see him this season?
“I thought he was good Saturday. I thought he had his best game of the year Saturday. He made a couple bad turnovers, but he played well and that was a good sign. He’s up and down. Freshman year is hard for point guards.”
How do you feel about the timing of the break?
“I think that we’ve worked hard. We’ve had a lot of games and a lot of hard practices. I think that we are getting better. I think we had a long way to go to get to even this point, and I think that we still have a long way to go to get better. That’s part of what it is.”
“We have guys trying to figure out what they’re doing out there. We haven’t had that in six years. We have guys that can’t run some of the plays, so we still have a lot to do and a lot to figure out. We have a few days, a couple more non-conference games, and then we have to be ready. I think we’ve learned some things. It’s been difficult and hopefully we have learned some things, but we won’t find out until we get to tough games and see how we do in those games”
“We’ve had a lot of tough games and I think that overall we have gotten better, but we’ve still got a long way to go to be where we’d like to be, a long way.”
You said earlier in the year that Michael Gbinije could be paramount on this team. Have you been impressed?
“He’s been getting better. He was really good Saturday, and I think that that was one of the main reasons that we played better. He has to be a big factor for us as we go forward, there’s no question about that.”
