Syracuse vs. Boston College
February 19, 2014
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
C.J. Fair, Senior, Forward
What’s your response to the 25-0 streak ending?
“It’s tough to go undefeated anyway. Of course you want to win every game but you can’t. It’s a tough loss. We had the game in our hands and we gave the game away.”
Is there a sense that this is a game that could have been/should have been won?
“It should have been won, but you have to play forty minutes and I don’t think we played hard for forty minutes. That got Boston College going and they extended the game and then won the game in overtime.”
Are you unhappy with how the offense has been running?
“I think we work too hard for our points. We have to get some easy three-pointers going and I think that will open up the paint.”
How do you get back on track?
“Be smart on offense. Boston College - they like to hold the ball for a majority of the shot clock and then penetrate and shoot threes. Then when we got on offense we’ll get a quick good look, but we’d miss and we weren’t getting second chance points. It just seemed like a cycle and we couldn’t get anything going.”
Trevor Cooney, Redshirt Sophomore, Guard
What are your general thoughts on the game tonight?
“Some of the shots we took were rushed and especially against a team like Boston College - who’s going to slow it up - every possession has to count and some of ours just didn’t.”
What do you guys think about losing that 25-0 record?
“We’ll see. We’ll see how we respond. I mean we have some good guys on our team and guys who don’t like to lose at all and I’m one of those guys and we’ll be ready to practice tomorrow. We’ll be ready to bring it. We have a tough road stretch coming up and we’ll see how we respond. We have to respond the right way.”
What adjustments do you have to make offensively to improve going forward?
“I think it’s just getting into a good flow. I think earlier in the year everyone was in a good flow and everyone was in a good rhythm and I think we’re not on that anymore. We just have to find it and get back into it. We’re a good offensive team and there have been games when we put up a lot of points. We can do it we just got to get back on it.”
What do you guys have to do to bounce back and respond, especially going into a tough environment at Duke?
“We just have to come ready to play. The ACC is good no matter where you’re playing - especially playing at a place like Cameron (Cameron Indoor Stadium). We just have to come ready to play, that’s all.”
Are you excited for the opportunity to play in a place like that (Cameron Indoor Stadium)?
“Yeah we’re excited to play there. It’s a great place to play and we’re looking forward to it. At the end of the day you have to come ready to play.”
Tyler Ennis, Freshman, Guard
This is your first loss as a freshman at the Division I level, can you describe what you’re feeling right now?
“Obviously it’s not a good feeling. I didn’t expect to go undefeated the whole season but it’s tough to lose to a team when you know it was you that made the mistakes and that you definitely could have won the game.”
What was the difference tonight compared to other games?
“I thought offensively we didn’t hit shots that we usually make and defensively I thought we did a good job in the first half of locating shooters and taking away their shots. But in the second half we lost focus on where they were and they hit some big shots.”
What was different this game from the last time you played Boston College?
“I think it was a pretty similar game as far as them hitting shots in the right moments. When we were down there we were able to get a couple of stops at the end of the game. This time around they made plays at the end. So it was a pretty similar game – they hit a lot of threes on us and we just weren’t able to close out.”
Having seen Olivier (Hanlan) from your time in Canada, how big was his play tonight?
“Olivier, he’s just a really good player. He’s able to facilitate, he’s able to score so he’s a tough person to guard out there. I think he’s definitely their main piece on offense. If he gets it going their whole team is going to get it going. He’s really important for them.”
