Syracuse vs. Lehigh
November 13, 2015
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Michael Gbinije, Sr., Guard
What are your thoughts on the first game?
“We got it out of the way. Its only the first game -- we have a lot to improve on. The good thing is that we came out with the win so hopefully we can keep this going.”
You guys had to play a smaller lineup. How do you think that went?
“Its going to open up the court for us as far as driving lanes and shooting. It’s the first time we’ve played a game this year and that lineup we haven’t practiced very much at all. We’ll probably practice it more and get better.”
The freshman looked good. What did you think of their first game?
"I think they all did well. Lydon made some good plays. Malachi is a great shooter and great scorer and Frank played very well too. I think they handled it well for their first game.”
Trevor Cooney, Sr., Guard
Is it helpful to go through early season adversity? Coached mentioned the second half got a little closer than he would have liked?
“They’re a good team. They are going to win some games this year and they’re going to beat some good teams. It was a definitely a good test for us as far as our first game. Down the stretch in the second half we have to do better. We had some turnovers that we normally don’t have. “
How do you feel Malachi (Richardson) and Tyler (Lydon) did this game?
“They’re all (the freshmen) capable of stepping up. We put that confidence in them, and we tell them every single day to go out there and play. That’s what they did today and that’s what we want them to do going forward.”
Tyler Lydon, Fr., Forward
As a team, do you feel like you were getting the shots you wanted?
“We got a lot of open three’s. We obviously need to attack more but I think we got the shots that we were looking for. Obviously, I wanted to shoot better, but its good to just get that game out of the way. I’m going to work on it and hope that I shoot better.”
How woud you grade your defensive effort?
“I’m just trying to do whatever I can and do whatever it takes to win. Today I was blocking some shots to make it happen, so whatever it takes.”
