Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Virginia
March 2, 2015
Carrier Dome, Syracuse N.Y.
Rakeem Christmas
Any lasting memories you were soaking up, even before the game started?
“To realize it was really my last game.”
You’ve had an incredible career so far and hopefully, more to come. But, what do you attest your success to?
“The Lord, first and foremost.”
How did it feel right before the game started and you hoisted your jersey up and everyone was cheering for you?
"That’s when it really hit me -- this was my last game here. it was a great feeling."
What did Coach Boeheim say to you as you walked off the court?
"We have one more game we have to get ready for. I have to get ready for the last one."
Trevor Cooney
What are the biggest things you are going to take from Rakeem (Christmas) as you move forward?
“Just the journey of everything. He’s a hard worker and that’s all you can take from him. He just kept working. His numbers just kept getting better every year and his numbers just took off this year.”
Having been together over the four years, what can you say about the bond you have forged together?
“I’ve known Rak a really long time, even before we came here. So it’s a special bond we have together. I am glad I was able to share four years with him here and play with him. He’s a great kid and a great guy.”
Coach Beoheim said given the limitations of this team he finds it hard to believe you won 18 games. What is your reaction to that?
“You take it how it really is. We had some games we should have won, some other games we should have put it away. It’s going to happen. We had plenty of chances this year to beat some really good teams and we just couldn’t do it. We just came up short in some of the big games we needed to win.”
Tyler Roberson
Rakeem’s last game in the Carrier Dome, what can you thank him for and his time here?
“Everything. He was a great leader. He gave everything.”
Coach said you were probably more of a small forward than a power forward. Is that where you see yourself headed?
“I think definitely. I think I can play a little bit of both. Obviously this year I had to play a little bit of both. With Chris (McCullough) going down I had to play power forward.”
Do you see yourself taking anything away from Rakeem’s game?
“Definitely. Working and playing against him in practice, just seeing his post moves and his hustle. You can take a lot away from his game.”
