Syracuse Player Quotes - Georgia Tech
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Georgia Tech
January 30, 2016
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Malachi Richardson, Freshman, Guard
Can you talk about the finish of this game, and your take on how this one finished out?
“We just need to make the free throws. I missed way too many today. When I make free throws I think the outcome is a little bit better for us but we still got the victory today.”
In the last couple of minutes you had that big steal, had a big rebound, had a couple of big defensive plays down the stretch. Was the game slowing down for you at all or were you just kind of doing your thing and the ball just ended up in your hands?
“I just wanted to have a nose for the ball and know where it was. At the end of the game, it’s very important for us to get the ball in situations like that. That eliminates them from getting second-chance opportunities and scoring. I thought I would take it upon myself to go get it.”
This has been a team that has lived and died by the three’s but you guys only made six today. What does that tell you about the team?”
“We can win without making a bunch of three’s. We’ve lost when we’ve made a bunch of three’s. Prime example -- at Virginia. It’s a point for us to do the work and make free throws and rebound the ball.”
Michael Gbinije, Graduate Student, Guard
Is Frank Howard coming along faster than you thought?
“Yes, I always envisioned him playing like this. He’s such a capable passer. He’s got great court vision and a good handle to his game.”
What do you think about Virginia Tech coming up?
“They’re going to come at us. They’re a high-pressure team, and their point guard is really good. He’s played against Syracuse before so he’s got some experience. We just have to be at our best come game time and just try to perform the best we can.”
What happened to you on that stretch and you got hit?
“I just remember a big hand coming at my face and I got poked in the eyes. No injury, just got poked in both eyes.”
