Postgame Quotes
Andrew White III, Gr., G
How do you feel about Pearl Washington Day, despite the loss?
“I think this event was well put together. I think he would have been proud about the way everybody honored him today. It was good to see all the supporters and followers come in and have a day dedicated to him. I think the atmosphere and the venue was great, it feels good to be a part of something like this. It’s bigger than yourself.”
When it ends in a loss, how do you take that as a team?
“Obviously we didn’t do our job. That’s what would have made this event even better. We need to improve and take care of business and that puts a sour taste in the entire theme of the night. It happens sometimes and we just have to get in the gym and do better for the next one.”
Taurean Thompson, Fr., F
I know you don’t normally play in the middle, but is there a difference there than playing on the wing?
“Just being a presence. It’s not as much movement than other positions. You bang with big bodies and everyone looks to you to block shots and get rebounds, so you have to be the anchor down there.”
When the NCAA tournament comes around and people say you don’t have a good non-conference win, how much do you think it will hurt?
“We’ve only played eight or nine games. We aren’t even halfway done so I’m not worried about it.”
Frank Howard, So., G
From your perspective, what could you have done better passing-wise?
“It just wasn’t going down, everybody knew I was going to pass, so it’s hard to say. Not being aggressive, almost giving away the pass.”
I saw Coach Autry and Coach McNamara talking to you a couple of times. What types of things were they telling you to try and get you into the game?
“Keep my mentality up. I need to be mentally prepared and I let it affect my play.”
How do you fix that going forward so that it doesn’t impact your play in the future?
“I’ve just got to be mentally strong. I can’t let a turnover or bad play affect how I play. I just have to continue to be aggressive. I didn’t do that, and that’s basically how we lost. I didn’t make a lot of plays, a lot of plays that we needed to.”
John Gillon, Gr., G
How do you and Frank (Howard) respond to coach’s challenge?
“Respond by going in and doing what they ask; they are telling me I need to finish better, which I do. I’m really mad at myself for the layups that I missed and the opportunities that I missed. I mean, Tyler (Lydon) did a good job finishing for me and getting the rebounds for me on the back end.”
Do you think this loss will come back to bite you? Why is it not panic time from your perspective?
“It’s not panic time, it’s still early. I know we really did need quality wins, but I think our ACC schedule is tough enough to give us enough good wins to be good.”
Coach Boeheim said he wanted more out of the guards today. What went wrong today in this game against Georgetown from a guard perspective?
“We just didn’t make enough plays at the end of the day. I didn’t finish the ball well. All of us didn’t score enough. We didn’t make enough plays. We didn’t make it easy on our bigs, and when we’re not making plays then the offense doesn’t work, so we have to do a better job.”
