Coach Boeheim Quotes - Eastern Michigan
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Eastern Michigan
December 19, 2016
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Head Coach Jim Boeheim
Opening Statement:
“We made a lot of shots and we got the ball in the right places and got some really good looks. Taurean (Thompson) did a good job early in the middle and got us going. He and Tyler (Lydon) work well together. When we get those open looks we can make those. I thought (the) defense was better and I thought, in the second half, our rebounding was better. But we still got a lot of work to do.”
For most of the buckets you made, almost every single one, with the exception of a few, were assisted. What do you think of your team’s ball movement?
“I thought it was good. We play against zones, we see zones, we should be good against zones, and we were. We moved the ball, we got good looks. We passed the ball well. I thought John (Gillon) and Frank (Howard) both found guys, found people open, and we made shots. That was a big factor, I think, too.”
Was this the most aggressive Frank Howard has been this season?
“I think he’s just hasn’t been playing well. He’ll get going. He’s a young guard. He’ll get going.”
You’ve had three games, with Taurean Thompson playing center. What does he bring to that position?
“He’s a good player in the middle there. He’s an especially good offensive player in that area.”
Eastern Michigan has three guys that score more than 15 points a game. Tonight, you held them in check so what specifically do you?
“I think we did a better job of guarding perimeter guys. We’ve been giving perimeter guys open looks all year. We’ve been giving guys their best games of the year, three or four different guys, and they’re all perimeter guys. I thought, tonight, we were a little better getting out on those guys. That was something that we wanted to do and I think we did better than we’ve been doing.”
Is there anything specific that Taurean Thompson has skill-wise?
“He can shoot, he’s a good passer. He has good hands, he’s a really good offensive player. Really good.”
