Opening Statement:
"My biggest conern going into this game tonight was not having the enthusiasm we had been playing with as of late. The energy and effort would not be enough to overcome their experience and execution. I was concerned if whether or not we would be experienced enough to attack their zone, or whether or not we were sound enough to handle them from a defensive point to defend them. They were a very, very difficult match up for us because of their ability to take us off of dribbling and pull up. They can make shots off of the dribble. Obviously in the first few minutes of the game, it was like we weren’t even on the court. I was very disappointed in the defensive field-goal percentage. I am not really sure that we have ever had a team that shot that well against us, but to their credit they took advantage of every break down we had defensively. Every lack of hawk and testing they made us pay. I think the biggest challenge tonight for us was to overcome their experience and execution. I think their experience and execution won tonight. Hopefully, we learn from this and get back on a streak. We have another opportunity this weekend at home, so this will be a great lesson in how not to get started. Hopefully we can learn from it."
Dajuan Coleman only had eight points, but had the first six points pf tje second half. What was his impact?
"I think that the first six baskets they made, he drove to the basket twice, and then he got an offensive rebound. Then the other three shots that Gbinjie hit, when Boris Bojanovsky was defending him, that basically made the difference in the game. That put us in the hole and we couldn’t dig out of it."
When Devon Bookert had that three at the end of the first half and you’re only down three after everything had happened. Do you think maybe the worst is behind you and you’re going to survive the storm?
"Well obviously I thought we were very fortunate to be only be down three at half time because we had not played very well defensively. We did not executive very well against their zone offense. All the things we had planned in our game plan was one of the reasons we didn’t get it done offensively tonight. We never got the ball to the spots on the floor that we had been accustomed too. That is credit to them. I thought their defense was execellent. They kept us passing the ball around the perimeter. We had a very difficult time penetrating into the lane. Their experience showed tonight, not inexperience."
You talk a lot about the zone, but tonight it seemed more effective.
They are always effective. They are consistent with how they defend with their zone defense. It wasn’t like it was a secret or anything we wouldn’t expect them. We just didn’t do a very good job against it.
