Syracuse Player Quotes - NC State
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. NC State
Saturday, Feb. 27
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Michael Gbinije, Guard, Graduate Student
Can you talk about how you took over the game after NC State cut the lead?
“I just wanted to win. Me shooting the ball tonight was the best option but I’m honestly way happier we won than about my individual performance."
How do you feel about playing your final game in the Carrier Dome?
“It hasn’t honestly really hit me yet. Syracuse has been a great place for me. I really love Syracuse. Syracuse has great fans and students who I’ve met. Syracuse has a lot of great things and I love it.”
Tyler Lydon, Freshman, Forward
What did you see from Michael Gbinije today?
“He’s a great player. We are obviously very fortunate to have him and he will definitely be missed. He had a heck of a night. I thought every shot was going to go in."
You also made some clutch shots. Can you talk about your performance?
“I’m going to shoot the ball whenever I’m open. I got open most of the night and they just didn’t fall. I’m going to continue to shoot, work on my jumpshot and keep getting better every day."
Trevor Cooney, Graduate Student, Guard
Can you talk about Michael Gbinije’s performance?
“Mike had it going. In the second half, everyone was trying to get him open. He had the hot hand and the other four guys were trying to get him open."
You have a quick turnaround, playing at North Carolina on Monday. What challenges will you face in Chapel Hill?
“They are one of the best teams in the country. They played really well here last time. Going back to that game, we didn’t defend the high post well. They had easy dunks at the end. We have to limit their chances at doing that. Our defense has been there but it needs to be amped up when we go out there."
