Syracuse vs. Northeastern
Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Oshae Brissett, So., F
It seems that you have moved your game closer to the basket than in New York. Was there an effort on your part to do this?
“Getting more comfortable inside early in the game opens up the 3-pointers and makes you feel more confident. I’ve really been trying to get inside for these past couple games.”
It looked like tonight you just were not going to be denied. What was your mindset coming into the game?
“I tried to do anything to get us the win. Not just win, but win comfortably. I felt like going in there and grabbing those rebounds was something we needed to keep the energy up. If we didn’t get those boards, it would have been a slow game, so I just wanted to keep the energy up on our end.”
You drove the ball to the basket well today. Why did you decide that was a good thing to do?
“They were passive and left the middle wide open. We started the game off with two lobs and that really backed them up. Then that opened up the lane to get easy drives. I felt like we made the right adjustments tonight. We weren’t settling, we drove to the basket, so I felt it was a good all-around win.”
Elijah Hughes, R-So., F
What went right today that didn’t go right against Cornell?
“I just approached it differently mentally, playing with more confidence. Coach told me I need to be more aggressive with my shot and score so I did that. I tried to pick my spots better and get to the rim and shoot when I’m open from three.”
How would you rate this game compared to Cornell?
“We just played with no sense of urgency against Cornell. There was no fire. There was none of that. Today we just tried to focus on giving the first punch and never looking back.”
What does it mean to you to be able to play Georgetown in the Carrier Dome?
“I’ve never been a part of the game. I wasn’t playing last year, obviously, but just the rivalry – one of the toughest in college basketball, one of the biggest. I’m just excited to get it going.”
Jalen Carey, Fr., G
What do you make of your performance?
“I think I played well. I think as a team we played well. We hit shots. We played well defensively. There were times when they had a couple open shots, a couple open looks, but I thought overall we played well and came back the way we want to play – just going up and down.”
What do you think went into the assist totals going up today?
“That’s what we do at our position. We try to make plays for others. If we have our shot, we’re going to take it. But making plays for others, getting into the lane, making the defense choose whether they are going to cover us or the kick, just always keeping the defense on their heels and that’s what we did tonight.”
What are you looking forward to most in your first experience playing Georgetown?
“I’m looking forward to just getting the win. The way I played tonight, I want to do more the next game, just do a little more each game, just help the guys win. I am looking forward to a big crowd, arena packed. I love those moments – everyone coming to watch us play. I can’t wait.”
Buddy Boeheim, Fr., G
Your first game against Georgetown as a Syracuse player is on Saturday. What are the emotions like going into that one?
“That’s a game that you want to win more than anything. That’s a game that you have circled. Watching them come here every year, those battles we have with those players and coaches is something else. It’s one of the best rivalries in college basketball.”
